In September Malta commemorates one of the most crucial turning points in its history, the Great Siege Victory of 1565. Vittoriosa’s role as the nerve centre of the battle and the bulwark of the defence operations cannot be underestimated.
It is now 300 years since the Victory Monument was erected in Vittoriosa Square. To commemorate this event and to officially launch the society’s Website, the Vittoriosa Historical and Cultural Society invites students and youths to participate in a novel competition, a Historical Treasure Hunt.
Each participant will be given an itinerary (in Maltese) to follow. This will contain hints and indications of the historical and artistic treasures to be discovered and noted. The route, which takes participants along the narrow streets of Birgu, will create a sense of adventure and should take about an hour.
The competition is open to students and youths aged between 12 and 16 years. Participants are requested to visit the society’ Website for conditions of participation, print the questionnaire and use it as guide around the city.
A participant may team up with someone else if desired. Replies must be submitted by not later than 31 October. Gifts and certificates will be awarded to the winners.
